Winston Evatt Jr

March 13, 1945-November 25, 2022

Winston Evatt Jr, 77, of Mineral passed away November 25, 2022 at his lifelong home.  Born March 13, 1945, Junior displayed valor and patriotism early on as a proud member of the US Army.  Skilled at working with his hands, he spent his civilian career in the construction and automotive industries.  While raising his four sons, he spent his spare time coaching Little League baseball and serving as a Boy Scout leader.  Junior strived to be a positive role model to his sons as well as their friends, other children in the community, and especially to his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren who lovingly knew him as “Pop”.  Junior greatly enjoyed fishing and hunting, as well as watching cooking shows and trying out new recipes for his family to enjoy.

A well-known member of the Mineral community, Junior dedicated countless hours volunteering on the rescue squad helping others. He frequently signed up for the holiday duty shifts so that the other rescue squad members could spend time with their families.  Often, you could find Junior at the Mineral Restaurant, Express Lane, or Main Street Supply saying hello to anyone that entered and sharing witty banter and his own brand of humor to make everyone smile.

Junior was preceded in death by his parents Winston and Margaret Evatt, his brothers William and Edward Evatt, his sister Audrey Evatt, and his grandson Stephen Evatt. Junior is survived by his sister Mary Waddy, sons and daughters-in-law Winston (Donna), Kenneth (Kristy), Kevin (Jody), and Thomas (Brandi Ward).

He is also survived by his grandchildren Devlin Madison (Cerise), Miranda Kellison (Clabe), Amity Burghardt (Brian), Wynston (Beth) Evatt, Jamie Evatt, Shauna Butler (Ernie), Tiera Shelton, Kendyl Evatt, Jayden Ferrell, Camdon Evatt-Ferrell, Reagan Evatt, Brooklynn Morris, Shayne Eastwood (Kasia), Chloe Madison,  Parker Kellison, Alissa Thompson, Kellie Thompson, Arianna Lewis-Evatt, Ernie (EJ) Butler, Jayce Lewis-Evatt, Noe’Lahni Ross, Easton Kirby, Elijah Ross, Grayson Lewis, Gunner Kirby, Maverick Burghardt, Alexander Eastwood, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services are being held at the Mineral Baptist Church Family Life Center on December 17, 2022 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in his name to Mineral Volunteer Fire and Rescue.
