On March 18, 2013, William Richard Hynes, Commander, US Navy, Retired, passed away peacefully in hishome on Lake Louisa surrounded by family.He was 74 years old. Bill served 23 years in the US Navy as an Intelligence Officer. He was a graduate of the US Naval War College, was on the maiden voyage of the carrier USS Enterprise, and served his country in many places around the world, including Germany, Hawaii, Japan, and the Pentagon during his time as a Naval Officer. Later, he worked as a defense contractor for 15 years before retiring to his dream home on the lake in Louisa, VA. He enjoyed his retirement by traveling the world with his wife, spending time with family and friends, watching wildlife on the lake, and still finding time for a few rounds of golf with friends. He was also an active member of his church and a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus.Bill will always be remembered for his love of life and the people he met along the way as well ashis sense of humor and his passion for sports. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, New York Giants, and the Hurricanes of the University of Miami, his alma materBill is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Carroll Anne Hynes, of Louisa, VA; his daughter Karen Murray and her husband, Jim of Mason Neck, VA, his son Andy Hynes and his wife, Anne; granddaughters Maille and Lainey of Ellicott City, MD; his brothers John Hynes of Rochester, NY and Robert Hynes and his wife, Barbara of Hilton Head, SC; and numerous other family and friends.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 24 at Woodward Funeral Home.A service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 25 at St. Judes Catholic Church.
