Warwick Archer Mitchell Garfield, 86, of Porter Ranch, California, passed away peacefully at her home, Sunday, April 5, 2009.
She was born March 23, 1923 in Huntington, West Virginia, to the late Allen Jackson Mitchell and Daisy James Arthur Mitchell.
She is also preceded in death by her husband: Harold Theodore Garfield.
Mrs. Garfield graduate from Longwood Teacher’s College in Farmville, Virginia in 1943, as a French major and attended graduate classes at the University of California at Los Angeles UCLA and California State University at Northridge CSUN in education. She was a retired school teacher after 45 years; teaching gifted children for 25 years at Balboa Boulevard Elementary School in Northridge, California. She and her husband, Harold, moved to California in 1947 and made their home in Porter Ranch, California since 1964. She was an avid world traveler and photographer.
Survivors include her children: Susan Mitchell Garfield Lewin, of Henderson, Nevada; Corey T. Ryder of Kula, Hawaii; grandchildren: Natasha A. Lewin of Brookline, Massachusetts; Katrina E. Lewin of Palo Alto, California; brothers: William P. Mitchell, and Max Mitchell both of Fayetteville, North Carolina; Nieces: Debbie Mitchell Knight, and Pamela both of Raleigh, North Carolina; First Cousins: Allen Flannagan of Hopewell, Virginia, Samuel Flannagan of Louisa, Virginia and Henry Flannagan or Greensboro, North Carolina
A graveside service will be held, Thursday, April 16, 2009, at Hillcrest Cemetery, Louisa, Pastor Todd McCoy will officiate.
Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa, is in charge of the arrangements.
