Thurman Fred Baker, 78, of Mineral, passed away peacefully in his sleep during the early hours of Saturday, August 11, 2012.
He was born in Cucumber, West Virginia, on January 15, 1934.
He is survived by his wife, Ina May Baker of 57 years; his daughter, Debra Cox, and her husband, Steve; his daughters, Thurma Romano and Tina Walker; his son, Randy Baker, and his wife, Faith; his grandsons, Eric Louisa and Arthur Romano III; his granddaughters, Morgan and Miranda Baker; his great-grandson, Conor Louisa; his great-granddaughter, Haleigh Rae Romano; and his great-grandson, Weston Blake, due in September. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Moser and Bessie Culver; and his brothers, Clarence Baker and Donald Baker and his wife, Carol; numerous nieces and nephews and his special grand-dog, Scruf.
Fred was predeceased by his parents, George Alex Baker and Mary Bell Taylor Baker, and seven brothers and three sisters.
Fred proudly served his country during the Korean War and went on to work in the ornamental iron business for more than 40 years.
He enjoyed his retirement years working around his home and land that he loved so much, gardening, cutting grass and splitting wood. He also enjoyed taking care of his cats, chickens, fish and hummingbirds.
A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14, at Spring Grove Cemetery, Mineral.
Arrangements were made by Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa.

Dear Ina and Family: My sincere condolences to your entire family. Thurman always seemed to be the quietest, most gentle man. I know this is a tremendous loss and wish you peace and good memories.
To Mrs Baker and Family.. Mr. Baker ..Oh my How well did we know you guys..Each of you are family to us all.And as you we to will miss Mr.Baker.But know that you can hold on to his memories ..Right now it may not seem like it but as time go`s one it get better..You never stop missing him and he will always be in your heart..I am sorry for your lose and may God bless you each.
