October 18, 1936-February 03,2022

Thomas Earl Weeks, 85, of Mineral, VA, passed away on February 3, 2022, at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital after a short battle with Covid.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Gib Lee & Katie Rose Weeks, four brothers: Woodrow Weeks, Roland Weeks, William “Bud” Weeks, and Delano Weeks; three sisters: Clara Brock, Edna Jackson, and Loreen Bradshaw, and his loving wife of 45 years who had passed only 29 days prior, Betty Jean Weeks.

Tom is survived by his sisters, Colleen Westbrook of Spivey Corner, NC, Aileen Southerland of Clinton, NC, and Rose Gainey of Clinton, NC, his children Johnny Weeks (Donna) of Branson, MO, Bobbie Jo Saunders (Mitchell) of Gloucester, VA, Christina Burkard (Marc) of Palmyra, VA, and Katherine Moore (Ira) of Charlottesville, VA.  He also has a stepson whom he loved as his own, David York (Tracey) of Kendallville, IN.  Tom was blessed with seven grandchildren: Thomas (Felicia), Amanda, Airrik, Amy (Michael), Cody, Dylan, and Alayna (Steven), as well as six great-grandchildren: Thomas, Alice, Zoey, Zack, Jace, and Uriel.  He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Born October 18, 1936, in Sampson County, North Carolina, Tom worked in tobacco and cotton fields until he moved to Virginia in the ’60s to become a commercial painter.  He took great pride in his work of painting colleges, hospitals, and prisons, up and down the east coast until his retirement.  He met Betty in a restaurant in Hampton, VA, in 1974.  They married in 1976 and would move to Mineral, VA, to raise their family.

Since his retirement, Tom spent his days working in the yard and his woodshed, building birdhouses, toy chests, Adirondack chairs, and cabinets to give as gifts to his family.  He enjoyed sitting in the rocking chair on his porch and chatting up with the neighbors as they went by.  Tom also loved fishing and watching UNC Tarheels Basketball, a passion he shared with his youngest daughter, Katherine.  Tom never met a stranger and will be missed by all.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 2 pm at Spring Grove Memorial Cemetery in Mineral, VA.  All are welcome.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local animal shelter.  Tom loved his shelter cat, Munk, and all the other neighborhood cats, birds, chipmunks, squirrels, and raccoons he regularly fed.  Flowers may be sent to Woodward Funeral Home in Louisa, VA.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful ICU staff at Sentara Martha Jefferson for the love and compassion shown to our father and family.
