Stephen Franklin Thruston Jr.
Aug 12, 1950 – Jun 06, 2017
Stephen Franklin Thruston, Jr., 66, of Auburn, Alabama passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 6, 2017. A native of Mineral, Virginia, Steve graduated from Louisa County High School before attending Virginia Tech. He stayed a lifetime Virginia Tech fan, regardless of their record (Go Hokies!). After receiving his bachelors of Engineering in 1974, Steve worked as an electrical engineer developing cutting edge communications devices used for concerts and by college football teams.
Though he loved his work, he always felt it kept him too down to earth… so he obtained his pilot’s license and flew as often as he was able. Steve enjoyed finding the best Mexican food in town; as long as they had good hot sauce. He was a proud father to two outstanding daughters, Lindsay Hoffmann and Amy Schienschang. Steve leaves behind his loving mother, Dorothy Thruston; wonderful sisters, Pam Oaklander and Mary Holgate; and amazing grandchildren Lily Hoffmann and Mackinsey Schienschang.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 19 at Mineral Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Steve’s family requests that donations be made to the Virginia Tech College of Engineering or the Alzheimer’s Association
A true friend who would do anything to help a friend. I wish we would have been able to play trivia one more time.
