Herman and family, we are very sorry to hear of your loss. We didn`t know your mother but it sounds like she had a long and fruitful life.
Herman Lee, Hilda, and Family. Mrs. Gibson taught me one year at Mineral Elem. School and in my senior year at LCHS. Mrs. Gibson was a superb teacher. She emphasized the importance of memorizing the multiplication tables. I heard her say so often that you needed to be able to do math in your head.” When you made a purchase in a store you should be able to figure that 4 candy bars @ .25 each would equal $1.00 Young people today aren`t taught that — they are used to having calculators to do their thinking. At recess one day a girl bully called me an idiot. Mrs. Gibson overheard what she said. She sent the girl back to the classroom told her to look up the word “idiot” in the dictionary write down the meaning and stay in the classroom for the remainder of recess!!!! Ha.Ha. I respected loved and admired Mrs. Ruby Gibson Most sincerely Minnie Irwin”
Gibson family, my sincere condolences go out to each of you. I was blessed to have your matriarch as my 8th grade english teacher. She taught be alot that has been important to my overall education. I can also say thankyou to Hilda for piano lessons too. Please know your mom was appreciated by the students that shared time with her. Even after all these years I can picture her at the front of that room and hear her voice. God bless each of you. Rickie
Mrs. Gibson is the main reason that I became a teacher. She was outstanding. I had her at Mineral Elementary and Louisa High School in the 1960`s. I remember you and Hilda from high school. May God be with you and your family during this time.
