Roy Allen Wood, Sr.

Roy A. Wood, Sr. died at University Hospital of Virginia on Sunday, December 23, 2012. Mr. Wood was a veteran of WWII where he served for four years including eighteen months in the North Pacific. He served two years as President of the Fluvanna County Lions Club, and as chairman of the Horse Show Committee for many years. Following his retirement from the business world he taught Horsemanship at the Fork Union Military Academy for six years, opened and operated The Farm and Home Supply business in Fork Union. He is survived by his wife, Joan, one son Roy A. “AL” Wood, Jr. and his wife Pat of Myrtle Beach, SC; two grandchildren; Krys Wood Elmore and her husband Tom of Columbia, SC, Christopher D. Wood and his wife Stephanie of Reidsville, NC; three great-grandchildren, Sophie Lorraine Wood, “Gabe” Denny Wood and Georgia Drew Wood; two sisters, Mabel Wood Berry of Kissimmee, FL, and Evelyn Wood Mews of Louisa; numerous nieces and nephews and a very special sister-in-law, Barbara Robertson Kritzer of Fork Union, VA. In addition to the above he is survived by his wife’s children, Randy Field and his wife Mikki of Montana, Raleigh Field and his wife Pam of Disputanta, Gary Field and his wife Jean of Chester, Brian Field and his wife Donna of Hopewell, Thomas Field of Louisa, Lorraine Pearson and her husband Tim of Disputanta and numerous grandchildren and great grand children.He is preceded in death by his father, Howard B. Wood, his mother, Nannie Berry Wood, his first wife of 56 years Lorraine Robertson Wood, sisters, Viola “Sissy” Pollard and Margaret Wood Harris of Charlottesville, brothers, Henry Wood of Wytheville and Norman P. Wood of Charlottesville.Family will receive friend from 6-8pm Friday, December 28th at Woodward Funeral Home Louisa.Funeral services will be held11am Saturday, December 29th at The Hinton Avenue United Methodist Church, Charlottesville, VA with Rev. Robert Lewis officiating.Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Charlottesville, VAIn lieu of flowers Mr. Wood requested donations be made to the Bumpass Rescue Squad; 300 Bumpass Rd, Bumpass, VA 23024.
