Roger Bruce Herrell, 62, passed away at home on Sunday, January 6, 2019. Bruce was born March 16, 1956 in Fauquier County to the late Robert C. and Frances E. Kirby Herrell of The Plains, VA. Bruce is survived by his wife, E. Lorraine “Lori” Javins Herrell, sons James Dean Grant, John and Ashley Bonham and their children, Drew, Bella and Morgan; Tommy and Paige Bonham and their son, Holden; James Timothy Bonham and partner Heather and their daughter, Jillian; his daughters Lucy Breitung and her son, Hunter and Angela Phillips and her children, Civic, Brooklyn and Corbin; brothers Robert F. “Buddy” and Larry (Charlotte); sisters Carolyn Merica, Brenda Darnell (Ronnie), Roberta Gray (Rick); brother-in-law, Roger Javins (Flo); sisters-in-law Virginia Herrell (Allen), Patty Boylan (Ernie), Cathy Javins (Steve), Lucy Jensen (Bob), Susie Javins (Henry), Wilma Javins (Frankie); and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his brothers, William Allen Herrell, Wayne L. Herrell; nephew Mark A. Herrell; and brothers-in-law Richard L. “Rick” Gray and Frankie Javins.
Bruce enlisted in the U.S. Marines at the age of 17 and served in Okinawa among other stations. When his military service ended, he worked as a house painter and later started his own business as a painting contractor working throughout Northern Virginia, Washington, DC and Maryland. Bruce and wife Lori reside in Bumpass, VA.
Bruce loved life and was quick to laugh and share a smile. He loved his family and spoiling children, calling every child “George” regardless of their actual name! He was an avid Redskins fan. He loved the outdoors, fishing and camping, horse racing, music and dancing. His faithful dog, Peanut, was always by his side.
Graveside services, with U.S. Marine military honors, will be held at Culpeper National Cemetery,501 East Chandler Street, Culpeper, VA on Tuesday, January 22, at 1 p.m.
