Robert Gaines Stewart, Jr., 70, of Morehead City, North Carolina, formerly of Louisa, passed away at his residence Saturday, June 27, 2009. He was born July 17, 1938 in Glen Rodgers, West Virginia to the late Robert Gaines Stewart, Sr. and Golda Cooper Stewart.
Mr. Stewart served his country first in the U.S. Navy for 4 years then in the U.S. Air Force for 18 years before retiring. He then went on to work for the Raytheon Company for 25 years before retiring from there. He was an avid fisherman.
Mr. Stewart is survived by his former wife Zoe Catherine Stewart of Louisa, his two sons, Robert Charles Stewart and wife Susan of Louisa and David Lynn Stewart of Dale City, his two brothers, James H. Stewart and wife Linda of West Virginia and Douglas N. Stewart and wife Rose of Florida, his two grandchildren, Cathie M. Stewart and Kyle P. Stewart both of Louisa, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Woodward Funeral Home, 200 Fredericksburg Ave., Louisa, VA 23093. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2009 in the Woodward Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Huffman officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at Spring Grove Cemetery in Mineral.
