Renna Jean Grubbs
June 8, 1940 – October 9, 2023
Renna Jean Grubbs, who loved to be called ‘Granny’, departed her loving family on Monday, October 9th, 2023.
Jean was born in the District of Columbia on June 8th, 1940, to Elizabeth Haden & Harvey Lang. Jean was the mother to Barbara, Bobby, Charlie, and Mary. She raised her family with love and devotion.
Jean was a waitress in the County for over 25 years. She loved taking care of people and cherished the relationships through the years. If you ever had the pleasure of her being your waitress, she could, to this day, still recite what her ‘regulars’ ordered, down to the very last detail.
Granny loved and spoiled her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her great-great grandchild. Granny’s happiness came from times spent at ballfields, playgrounds, going fishing, trips to McDonalds, and playing cards and games. These are the memories that will last with her family forever.
Granny loved her pets and each one was a member of the family. Her dogs, cats, chickens, and peacock all had a special place in her heart. Anyone that knew Granny, knew this to be true.
Cooking, and specifically cooking for others, brought a special joy to Granny’s heart. So many delicious meals were shared with family and friends in her home. Everyone was welcome, and no one left hungry.
Granny was passionate for the love of her flowers and enjoyed many days and hours on her front porch watching ‘her’ birds.
She is preceded by her grandparents, Shirley and Renner Haden; mother, Elizabeth Haden; her husband, Robert W. Grubbs Sr.; and her beloved son, Charlie Grubbs.
She is survived by Barbara Walton (Chucky), Bobby Grubbs (Lisa), and Mary Gibson (Jimmy), 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
Graveside services will be held Friday, October 13th at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Gilead Baptist Church, 4768 Shannon Hill Road, Columbia Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, Granny’s wish was donations be made to local animal shelters.
