Pierce “PJ” Skare

July 7, 1946 – April 13, 2023

Pierce “PJ” Skare, 76, of Louisa, VA passed away Thursday, April 13, 2023. He was born July 7, 1946, in Kosciusko, MS and was a loving husband, son, father, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin,  grandfather, great grandfather and friend.

He is preceded in death by his father, Pierce T. Skare, mother, Anne Skare, and sister, Eileen Borst.

He is survived by his loving wife, Julia (38 years), his daughters, Charlotte Mathews, Christie (Bert) Moors, and Teresa Skare, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters in-law and many nieces and nephews.

PJ spent many happy years on his grandparents’ farm in Mississippi before moving to Fort Worth, TX with his mother and sister in the mid 50’s.  He joined the U.S. Navy in 1963, serving until 1969, including time in Vietnam.  After returning to Fort Worth, he began his career training as an electrician.  He obtained his pilot’s license in the early 70’s.  He obtained his Associates Degree and continued his career as a Plans Examiner and Building Inspector in several municipalities in the Fort Worth area.  He retired and moved to VA in 2006.

PJ had many interests including flying, hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycles, traveling to Europe and Cancun, gardening, raising chickens and being a beekeeper. His first love was music.  He always enjoyed jam sessions with his fellow musicians.  PJ would play his guitar for family and friends entertaining with a blend of country, gospel, and bluegrass music.  His best times were spent at family gatherings.

PJ’s life will be celebrated by family and friends, Monday, April 17 at 1:00 PM at the Woodward Funeral Home, 200 Fredericksburg Ave, Louisa, VA. Graveside services will be held 9:30am, Friday, April 21, 2023 at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Rd, Newtown, PA 18940.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in PJ’s name to the American Kidney Fund and the American Heart Association.
