Peggy Sims Goodwin Albright

Peggy Sims Goodwin Albright of Mineral, VA, passed away July 11, 2023, after an extended illness. She was born in 1931 to the late John Clifton Sims and Thelma Walton Sims of Pendleton, VA. She was predeceased by her first husband, George Swift Goodwin, Jr., her two sisters June Sims Massie and Iris Sims Gray, and her brother John Samuel Sims.

She is survived by her son George Goodwin Ill (Renee) and daughters Annaleigh Goodwin Johnson and Melinda Goodwin Black (David). Also surviving are four grandchildren Christian Goodwin (Liz), Leigh Pickels (Brooks), Chap Johnson and Joshua Black (Casey); her four great-grandchildren Savannah Goodwin, Grayson Goodwin, Hudson Pickels, and Garrett Pickels. Her brother Thomas Edward Sims (Jeanneice) of Richmond and special nieces Anna Christine Wilson Hudson (Raymond) and Jeanna Marie Wilson Lashley (Jeff) also survive her.

Mrs. Albright was a lifetime member of her beloved Gilboa Christian Church where she taught Sunday School for 42 years, She was past chairman of the Board of Deacons and was a trustee. She was the church’s first woman chairman and trustee in its history.

She was a charter member of the Louisa County Junior Woman’s Club represented the county as a Tobacco Festival hostess contestant. Other organizations included membership in the Louisa Historical Society, charter member of the Mineral Historical Society, Mineral Chapter of United Daughter of the Confederacy, and assistant leader of the Mineral Girl Scout Troop

Following the death of her first husband in 1967, she assumed responsibilities of his business, Goodwin Lumber Co., as president. She was also a Tree Farmer.

During all of this, Mrs. Albright maintained a strong focus on what she considered to be her greatest achievement and her greatest legacy: raising her three children. Nothing else she ever did gave her more pleasure or greater pride and she loved them dearly. Her compassion and love for her family and church defined her life.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m., Friday, July 14, at Gilboa Christian Church with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gilboa Christian Church, PO.
