ancy Kennedy Blatt, of Virginia Beach, VA passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2014.A graveside service will be held 2 pm on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Hillcrest Cemetery officiated by Rev. Jerry Hall.
Lois was an integral part of our family, and like a sister to my mother, Bobbie Joyce Gould. I don`t remember a Christmas Eve as a child that Lois and my mom weren`t spirited away in the bedroom wrapping gifts, while Bob and my Dad spiked the egg nog to get the children to go to sleep! She (and Bob) will always have a place in our hearts and remembered with loving thoughts. LeeAnn and family, she cherished you. I am grateful her suffering is over and she is reunited with Bob for Eternity.
My name is Joe Leon, and I am the realtor that helped Nancy sell her house in Silver Spring in 2005. We kept in touch after the sale, and we spoke often by phone. She was always kind and gracious in speech. She was a great listener, and although I had 20+ years of sales experience, she taught me how to talk and listen!! I think I could write a book about everything that Nancy an Bob shared with me about their lives, but I will not write a book here. One day while delivering 4th of July flags in the neighborhood, Bob opened up his wallet and showed me a picture of Nancy wearing a white swimsuit—must have been when they were newly married. He was so proud of her.. On a few occasions, Nancy shared about her job in D.C.during WWII, and the entire national war effort. Nancy spoke fondly of her husband, and shared a few stories of their travels and times together. After the sale of her house, Nancy and I enjoyed a lunch at a nice restaurant, and for the first time since Bob passed away, she had a margarita. It was a very special moment for me as well. During dinner we had another margarita, and big-band music began to play in the gazebo area of the restaurant. I commented that I used to be a dance instructor, and asked her to dance. It seemed to evoke memories of a beautiful past, and we both savored the moment, as we continued our waltz. A few days later she moved to Virginia Beach where she asked me to help her buy a new condo. I told her that it might be more prudent to wait, and she did not buy, and chose instead to live with her niece Lee Ann. The best move. Nancy was blessed beyond all measure to live with Lee Ann and Paul and Haley. Nancy was a beautiful person inside and out. Lee Ann is the same, and Lee Ann did the greatest thing a person can do for someone else…to care for others in their time of need. Lee Ann has stored up for herself treasures in heaven that thieves or rust cannot destroy. Lee Ann is a person that exemplifies Jesus Christ…
I knew Nancy was ill, but so sad to hear she passed away. Nancy and Bob were our next door neighbors in Silver Spring MD for about 5 years until we moved to California in 1963, when I was 10. Every year Nancy and Bob took my sister and I to the Ice Capades in Washington DC, it was beyond special to spend time with them!! They were lifelong friends and my mom and Nancy always kept in contact until the end and they would visit when possible. Always the best and nicest people and so sorry they are both now gone!!!!
