Martha McDaniel Stillwell Atkins, 95, of Louisa, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2009 at Louisa Health Care Center. She was born May 25, 1913 in Orange County to the late Alexander Edgar McDaniel and Ida Shifflett McDaniel.
Martha was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Goochland.
Martha was preceded in death by her first husband Ermon A. Stillwell, her second husband Grover Atkins and her daughters, Thelma Proffitt and Mattie Henley.
She is survived by her two sons, Floyd A. Stillwell and wife Linda of Louisa, Frank Stillwell and wife Janet of Louisa, her brother, Herman McDaniel and wife Mary of Ashland, her sister, Pearl Glass of Louisa, her son-in-laws, Wesley Henley of Rockville, and Ernest Proffitt of Fluvanna, her grandchildren, Carol Osborne and Sherry Henley of Rockville, Kay Stewart and husband Jimmy of Powhatan, Terry Gilbert and wife Kathy of Ashland, Gary Gilbert of Highland Springs, Gail Reed and husband John of South Carolina, Tommy Gilbert of Ashland, Donna Alessi and husband Michael of Mechanicsville, Ginger Fitzgerald and husband Rusty of Fluvanna, Beth Lewis and husband Charlie, Cindy Lawson, Corey Stillwell and wife Kristen, Casey Hammons and her husband A.J. Hammons all of Louisa, 18 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, at Woodward Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, in the Woodward Funeral Home Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Gary Gilbert, Tommy Gilbert, Stephen Gilbert, Nathan Gilbert, Charlie Lewis, and A.J. Hammons.
Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa, was in charge of the arrangements.
