Lucille Diggs Andrews

Lucille Diggs Andrews passed away and went to be with her Lord on November 23, 2022. Lucille was born on August 14, 1919 in Bumpass, Virginia. She was 103 years old.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, James Sturgis Andrews. They were married on March 4, 1944 and remained so until his death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Willie Ellis Diggs, Sr. and Missie C. Diggs, her twin sister, Louise Kopcho, her brother, J. Earl Diggs, and her son-in-law, George H. Howell.
She is survived by her son, James Sturgis Andrews, Jr, her daughter, Dottie A. Howell, her bother, Willie Ellis Diggs, Jr (Ramona), her grandchildren, Bryan H. Howell (Amy) and Meagan H. Anderson (Chad), and six great grand children (Michael, Micah, Caleb, Alli Beth, Annabelle, and Calhan), and one great great grandchild, Phillip. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including her devoted care-giver, Sue Kopcho Bailey.
During her life, Lucille worked as a first grade teacher for many years at Piedmont Christian School in Bumpass. She also served faithfully at Little River Baptist Church in many different capacities including teaching Sunday School, directing GA’s, and participating in church visitation. Lucille loved The Lord and her church, and impacted the lives of many people.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November, 29, 2022, at Little River Baptist Church in Bumpass, VA. Visitation will take place at 10:00am, with a funeral service at 11:00am and burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Little River Baptist Church (4959 Buckner Rd. Bumpass, VA)

Jim, so sorry to hear about the loss of your mother.
Very sorry to hear of Mrs Andrews passing. She was definitely a pillar in the community for as long as I can remember. I used to go to GAs at her house when I was about in third grade….probably around 1970! She lived a long and fulfilling life and touched many other lives along the way that’s for sure. Much sympathy to her family.
