Lawrence Thomas Peterson

July 5, 1944 – February 6, 2024

Lawrence Thomas Peterson of Lake Anna, Virginia passed away peacefully on February 6, 2024 at the age of 79.  He was the son of the late Lawrence Arthur and Eleanor Peterson.

He was born on July 5, 1944 in Plainfield, NJ where he grew up.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1988 where he achieved the rank of Major.  He served tours in Vietnam, Western Europe and the US. After retiring from the military, he worked as a defense contractor with the Henry M Jackson Foundation, specializing in infectious and biological hazards.  He fully retired in 2009.

Lawrence, fondly called “Senior,” loved woodworking, cooking, boating/fishing, and hanging out with friends and family at the lake home that he shared with his son and daughter-in-law.  He really enjoyed spending time in the workshop where he built several beautiful custom dining tables, China cabinets, and coffee tables.  Lawrence loved to cook—especially during the holidays and for company.  Whether there were two people or twenty, he cooked for thirty, so there was always enough for a few extra guests.  Lawrence loved living at the lake and enjoyed boating and fishing.

Lawrence is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Michelle Peterson; grandson and wife, Ryan and Afnan Miller of Charlottesville, VA;  granddaughter and husband, Margaret and Thomas Gaeth of Palmyra, VA; lifelong friend, Theresa Peterson of Boulder, CO; and two special  grand pups, Savannah and Ridge of Lake Anna, Virginia.

A Celebration of Life for Lawrence T. Peterson will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at the Peterson residence and interment will be held at the Arlington National Cemetery.  Details will be shared closer to the date(s) of the event(s).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lab Rescue LRCP, PO Box 1814, Annandale, VA 22003 or your local animal shelter.  Lawrence loved his pups more than anything and was a loyal supporter of the SPCA.
