Jack Owen Simmons, Sr.
Jack Owen Simmons, Sr. 78 of Mineral passed away Thursday, May 29, 2008 at his home. Jack was born April 12, 1930 to the late Branson Siple Simmons & Enid Aretha Simmons Ketterman.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a son: Gordon Wesley Simmons, three brothers: Richard Branson Simmons, Wesley Simmons, and Robert Lee Simmons; one grandson: Josh Simmons, and two brothers-in-law.
Mr. Simmons graduated from The Architectural Drafting and Design, National Arts Academy of Washington D.C. in 1958. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Jack earned numerous medals while serving in the Air Force to include: The UN Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He retired from Vitro Laboratories in Wheaton, MD.
Mr. Simmons is survived by his loving wife of almost 59 years: Jane Lavonne Simmons; one son: Jack Owen Simmons, Jr.; two daughters: Rita Ann Dunnivan; April Elaine Dearbeck & her husband Jerry, one sister: Rebecca Susan Stewardson & her husband Kennith; six grandchildren: Matthew, Emmett, Isadora, Sean, Erica, and Miranda; three great-grandchildren; three brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law who were all his best friends, numerous nieces and nephews, and one great niece.
A memorial prayer service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2008 at St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Mineral. Father Michael Duffy will be conducting the service. Interment at Parklawn Cemetery in Rockville, MD.
