J.B. “Joe” Vaughan

Vaughan, J.B. Joe 86 of Bumpass VA passed away August 9 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis B. Vaughan and his brother Benjamin F. Vaughan.
He is survived by his son Joseph B. Vaughan Jr. and his wife Clorese and their children Christina Carol Vaughan and Joseph “J.B.” Boxley Vaughan III. He is also survived by a nephew Dr. Willard P. Milby III and by a niece Katherine M. White and their families.
Joe worked for the Department of Forestry for 38 years and was best known to Louisa County children as “Smokey the Bear”. During this time he visited Louisa Schools and spoke on forest fire prevention. He was a Louisa County farmer his entire life. During WW II he supported the war effort by hauling lime to local farmers. He also delivered gravel to the citizens of Louisa County for over 60 years. His generosity and kindness will be missed by all.
The family wishes to say a special “thank you” to his caregivers Rosa Bohannon Owens and Terry Overby for their endless love and support.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:30 p.m. Wednesday August 12 2009 at Woodward Funeral Home in Louisa. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday August 13 2009 at Elk Creek Baptist Church.
