Harry Lee Jackson

Harry Lee Jackson passed away on Wednesday January 4, 2023.

Harry was born into the Great Depression on April 3rd, 1938. Harry served his country as a United States Marine for twenty-three years, retiring as a Gunnery Sergeant on December 31, 1978. He then served as a Deputy Sherriff in the City of Norfolk, VA as well as eight years with the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office.

Harry’s position with the Louisa County Sherriff’s Office being abolished, he served as a Corrections Officer with the Central Virginia Regional Jail retiring on January 1, 2001. Harry then worked in the security field. He was assigned to the security force at the United States Federal Courthouse in Charlottesville and the Social Security Appeals Court, also in Charlottesville.

Harry was an Elder in the Louisa Christian Church. He was a life member in the Sons of Confederate Veteran, a life member in the Veteran of Foreign Wars, Post 8947, Mineral, Va. A life member of the National Rifle Association, a more than forty-year member of the North – South Skirmish Association where he commanded the musket team “The First Regiment Engineer Troops, P.A.C.S.” for thirty-two years. Also authored two books on the “Civil War”. Former Petersburg National Battlefield Director, Mr. Chris Calkins, referred to Harry as an “expert” on the mines and mining operations at Petersburg in 1864-1865.

Harry is survived by his wife of 42 years Karol K. Lynn, three children Steve Jackson, an auxiliary Sherriff Deputy in Los Angeles County California, Daniel L. Jackson (A veteran of the first Gulf War USMC) a Veteran Police officer in James City County, Virginia, Dawn A. Jackson of Hampton, Virginia and step children, Larry Miller of Fluvanna County, VA, Robert Miller of Florida, Vicki Holloway (USMC retired) of Louisa VA, and Theresa Meyers of Louisa County.

Harry was the son of Thomas Cordell Jackson of Chowan County, NC and Una C.S. Jackson of Norfolk, Va. Harry is also survived by a sister Una M. Bateman of Norfolk, VA, six grandsons and one granddaughter.

A visitation will be held Sunday, January 15th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Louisa Christian Church. A funeral service will take place on Monday, January 16th at 10:00 a.m. at Louisa Christian Church with a graveside service to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Harry will be interred at Hillcrest Cemetery in a pine casket, similar to those his ancestors were buried in – as were his wishes.
