In Loving
Memory

George M. Heino, Jr.

September 15, 1943 – March 19, 2024

George M. Heino, Jr. passed away peacefully on March 19, 2024, in Richmond, Virginia from complications due to Parkinson’s disease.

Born on September 15, 1943, to an Italian mother and Finnish father, George grew up on Knickerbocker Avenue in Stamford, Connecticut.  Family was central to his childhood with large family gatherings, trips to Minnesota, and a street full of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

George married Gerry Serrani on June 24, 1967, in Stamford, Connecticut.  They raised their 3 children in Woodbridge, VA. Upon retirement, they built their dream house on Lake Anna, Virginia, continuing the legacy of Heino lake life.

Forever loyal to his family and friends, George was always present – never missing his daughters’ soccer and field hockey games or his son’s BMX races.  A man who loved camping, fishing, and boating – often wearing his famous red hat. So many amazing memories of vacations to Island Lake, the lost river, Algonquin State Park, Canada, and the beach with George doing all the driving, making sure everyone stayed awake.

George loved to entertain with more food and spirits than you could imagine. He was famous for his Christmas Eve parties on Jib Lane. He loved hockey, old cars, and Formula One racing.  His grandchildren were his pride and joy with boat rides and fun times at the lake.

George was preceded in death by his parents Lucy and George M. Heino, Sr. and his granddaughter Avery Kathryn Heino. George is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-six years Gerry, his sister, Gail Mueller, his daughter Gina Kidwell (Michael), son Mike Heino (Dana), and daughter Cheryl Modesto (Steve) and his seven grandchildren Ian, Max, Samantha, Wilson, Ella, Eva, and Oliver.

The family would like to thank the staff of Spring Arbor Richmond and Suncrest Hospice for caring for George (Georgie as he was lovingly known) during the past 7 months.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Woodward Funeral Home, 200 Fredericksburg Avenue, Louisa, VA 23093. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Immaculate Conception Church, 1107 Fredericks Hall Road, Bumpass, VA 23024. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation (www.michaeljfox.org) or Suncrest Hospice (7301 Forest Ave. #110 Richmond, VA 23229) in memory of George Heino.
