Evelyn Wood Mews, 97, passed away Monday, July 13, 2015. Mrs. Mews was a lifelong faithful and active member of Hinton Avenue United Methodist Church. She worked at the Woolen Mills and Frank Ix and Sons textile mills from 1935 until 1955. She then worked at her sister Margaret’s daycare center, The Little Dutch School, until her retirement in 1982 where she loved and cared for many boys and girls in the Charlottesville area.She was preceded in death by her husband, William Hayes Mews; her parents, Howard and Nannie Wood; all six siblings Viola Pollard, Henry Wood, Norman Wood, Mabel Berry, Margaret Harris and Roy Wood and her step grandchildren, George Ervin Jr., Hazel Sadler and Ricky Ervin.She is survived by her son William and his wife, Kathryn; grandsons Justin Michael and his wife, Amanda, Kevin Wayne and William Douglas; great-granddaughter Lela Roslyn Mews; two step daughters Dollie Floyd and her son Johnny Ervin, Iris Haywood and her children Sharon and David and also their grandchildren; and many nieces andnephews and their children and grandchildren also survive her.A memorial service will be held at 3 pm Saturday, July 18 at Hinton Avenue United Methodist Church in Charlottesville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hinton Avenue United Methodist Church, 750 Hinton Ave Charlottesville, VA 22902.
A Great Aunt but a greater person. Evelyn`s soul is now at peace and has found eternal rest.
