Edith Toombs

Edith Eleanor Toombs, 86 of Spotsylvania, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2008 at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, VA. Mrs. Toombs was a member of Mineral Baptist Church.
She survived by her husband of 61 years, Austin L. Toombs; one son Barry Wayne Toombs and his wife Cary Phillips of Louisa, Va.; one brother Bill Hensley of McGaheysville, VA; two grandchildren Jessica E. Toombs and Savannah L. Toombs both of Fredericksburg; one great grandchild Kaya N. Sninsky of Fredericksburg.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 29th at Mineral Baptist Church; with Dr. Michael Durham officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to service12 -1 P.M. at the church.

Edith was a good friend of my grandmother`s, Helen Gooden. Before my grandma passed away, she would constantly talk about Edith. They wrote letters back and forth. Edith`s letters always brought a smile to her face. I know they are together now in heaven. May God be with you in this time. It is always hard losing a loved one. My prayers go out to your family.
Let me extend my condolences on the loss your family has experienced. When I saw the Toombs name, I checked for connections. My father, Charles Nelson, deceased 20 years ago, lost his first wife, Clara Wooddell, in 1930. Her sister, Marie, had a son listed as A. Leroy Toombs in my family papers. Is this possibly Edith`s surviving spouse Austin L.? If so, I`d love to communicate with the family and share some of the old photos we have of their aunt.
