Dorothy Louise Payne
PAYNE, Miss Dorothy Louise, 95, of Louisa, passed away February 26, 2008 at Louisa Health Care Center. She was born in Louisa County July 18, 1912, the daughter of the late Malvern Walker and Nancy Tisdale Payne. Dorothy is survived by a niece, Mary Alice Butler Hottinger Steward of Louisa; two nephews, Worther Dick” Butler Lula Wright of Louisa and Rudy Butler Grace Martin of Manakin-Sabot; a large number of great-nieces and nephews; and a devoted friend Margaret Wallace. She was preceded in death by two sisters Lucy May Payne Butler and Hattie Morris Payne Butler. She was educated in Louisa County Public Schools. At the age of 16 she graduated from Louisa High School as valedictorian of her class. She attended University of Virginia and was a secretary at the State Department of Purchase and Printing in Louisa. She returned to Louisa where she retired from the Thomas Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District after 25 years for which she received a Distinguished Service Award. Miss Payne was a longtime member of Lasley United Methodist Church where she served as trustee Sunday school teacher choir member and former superintendent of the Sunday school. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday February 29 2008 at Woodward Funeral Home Chapel where funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Vivian Utz and Rev. Robert Haley at 11 a.m. Saturday March 1 2008. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Louisa.
