Craig Eugene Nickel, 67, of Louisa, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2014 at home. He was born on February 24. 1947 in Chariton, Iowa to Max and Jean (Latimer) Nickel. Craig was a 1965 graduate of Ames High School, Ames, Iowa. Attended college for a brief time before joining the Army in 1966 and was in the Viet Nam War. He was a helicopter mechanic in the service and through this training, he became a licensed airplane mechanic most of his life before his retirement. He lived and worked in Ft Dodge, IA, Alton, IL, Kalamazoo, MI, and then moved to Virginia to be closer to his granddaughter. Craig was very creative with his hands and like to build things, computers, boats, furniture, and his current home. Preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, brother, Roger Nickel. Survived by his wife, Jennifer, daughters, Melissa Suzanne Gunther (Jeffery) of Midlothian, Amanda Christine Nickel of Alton, Illinois, brother David Nickel, sister Mary Kay Bielenberg (Jeffry) of Lincoln, Nebraska, granddaughter Emeline Suzanne Gunther, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts, uncle and cousins. A memorial service will be held in Corydon, Iowa at a later date.
We will all miss you Craig.You lived a good life!! – Rest in peace forever.
