Carl David Letherer, Jr., 85, of Spotsylvania, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at his residence. Carl was born October 23, 1924 in Ohio to Carl David Letherer, Sr., and Stella E. McCabe Letherer. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church in Spotsylvania, and a member of Mineral Lodge #311 where he was past Master and past District Deputy Grand Master. He was a loving and caring husband, father, an avid photographer, painter, and artist.
Carl is survived by his wife of 63 years, Vernice M. Letherer, his daughter, Sharon L. Moser and her husband Bill of Spotsylvania, his son, Ronald D. Letherer of Culpeper, his three grandchildren, Jennifer Bywaters, Sarah Moser, Margot Moser, his great granddaughter, Brianna Bywaters, and his half sister, Carla A. Smith of Palos Verdes, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Don Letherer.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 25, 2010 at Good Hope Baptist Church in Spotsylvania with the Rev. Jim Cunningham officiating and Masonic Funeral Rites being given. Inurment will take place in the church cemetery, with the U.S. Marine Corps honor guard providing military honors.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to either: Fredericksburg SPCA, 10819 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22408, or, Humane Society of Culpeper, P.O. Box 1224, Culpeper, VA 22701.
I am already missing Carl. And I am so sorry he is no longer with us. But I know his uplifting and inpiring spirit will live on in memories – and, in his art. I pray for God`s mercy to comfort, strengthen and heal you and your family. If there is someway I can help, please let me know. I am the regular mail carrier for the Lawyers Rd. residence where I frequently would chat with Carl. Also, we worked together at VDOT about 30 years ago. He will be greatly missed.
