Betty Joan Butler Hopkins passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family and friends on Thursday, September 15, 2011. Betty was born on March 13, 1940 in Louisa County. She graduated from Louisa High School and Raised a Family in Louisa.

Betty was loved by all who knew her. She has a group of Church Sisters: who have been a support system for her over the years and their friendship and love is irreplaceable. Every Thursday night for years you could find Betty playing Bridge with another group of women who were also considered family. Betty’s biggest passion was getting together with her special antiquing buddies and spending all day at an auction or sale and coming home with lots of treasures and more important than treasures priceless memories.
The family would like to thank Garland and Jackie Nuckols Kerrie Pleasants Cindy Fleshman Nicolle Hottinger Lynn Smith-Gammon Christine Duerson Johanna Perry Juanita Bishop Legacy Hospice and to everyone for your prayers and many acts of kindness.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11am Thursday September 22 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Louisa.
Growing up,your mother loved to tap dance and was very good at it. She and I commuted to and from Louisa when she worked at the J. T. Christian Funeral Home. Her outgoing personality and quick wit made many friends in her travels. I will always remember how pretty she was as a bridesmaid in my wedding. She will be greatly missed.
Thinking of you all at this time. Sure did love Ms. Betty and her southern country charm. She was a bright spot in our day every time we saw her! Now she will take care of her antiquing” in heaven. Can you even imagine the yard sale she will have!??Love you all.”
Sending my prayers to the family.Know she will greatly missed by all.Have a lot of memories of seeing her at grandmother and Grandfather Shanks.A lot of fun times on our visits to Louisa.RIP Betty.Your cousinLynne
My condolences to all of Cousin Betty`s family and friends. Will never forget her gracious hospitality and antiquing with her on a visit to her home some years back nor her smile, sense of humor and laughter…I know she will be missed.
I came to know Betty when she worked at the Dentist Office. I would get there early just to spend time and have fun with her. She never could get Hardees to deliver to the office. My prayers to her family as she has left them for the reward she was promised.
As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life`s routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.
I loved the way Betty laughed. She knew how to find and create joy in life. May the family find comfort in remembering their happy times together. Olivia Ryan

Scott, Steven & Kelly, Your mother was one of the true treasures in this world. I first met her in 1981 when we worked in the same space at the school board office. My favorite Betty story is when we took an aerobic class together. We were doing an exercise on the floor that required us to stretch our arms out wide while laying on our backs. We then had to swing a leg across our body and touch our foot to our outstretched hand. She made it but then proclaimed in laughter, JoAnn I`m stuck. You need to push me back the other way.” She had the whole room in laughter which she was good at. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. God Bless each of you.”
May you and your family find comfort in the strength of the Lord during this difficult time.
Please accept my most heartfelt sympathies for your loss…my thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.
