Bertha “Tommy” Alice Barlow

Bertha “Tommy” Alice Barlow, age 84, passed peacefully in her sleep on July 25, 2015 at home in Mineral, Virginia. Bertha was born April 10, 1931, in Afton, Virginia, the youngest daughter of John William Wood and Rachael Elizabeth (Tomlin) Wood. Bertha received her formal education through the Louisa, Va. Public School System, where she excelled in her studies. Bertha accepted Christ as her Savior at Bible Baptist Church, currently Cornerstone Baptist Church of Mineral, Va.; where she served as a faithful member, choir member, and Sunday school teacher for over 40 years. Bertha loved the Lord and shared her love of the Lord with everyone around her. She also thoroughly enjoyed being outdoors and working in the garden; she only found greater love and joy as a Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother.In 1965, Bertha married the love of her life Arthur Thurston (A T) Barlow Sr., and established a small farm in Mineral, Va. A T and Tommy were truly blessed in life and raised six loving children, five sons and a daughter. Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, of 27 years Arthur T. Barlow Sr., Brothers William and Witt; Sisters Anna, Dorothy, and Ellen. She is survived by her sister, Rachael Miller of Holland FL.; her sons Harry A. Johnson; Arthur T. Barlow Jr and his wife Tina; John C. Barlow; Mark B. Barlow and his wife Donna; Scott B. Barlow and his wife Tasha; and daughter Sarah A. Thacker. She was blessed with and survived by seven grandchildren; Tristin M. Barlow, Arthur T. Barlow III, Scott B. Barlow Jr, Allison B. Oglesby, Bryan C. Barlow, Brandon M. Barlow, and Adam B. Barlow; three great grandchildren, Anelyse H. Oglesby, Wyatt T. Oglesby, and Juliana N. Oglesby; and numerous other relatives and close friends.Her love, friendship, and motherly advice will truly be missed. We love you!Bertha’s viewing service will be held from 6- 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at Woodward Funeral Home, 200 Fredericksburg Ave, Louisa Va. Afuneral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 30 at Woodward Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Louisa Va.
