Ava Arnette Pippin – 1954-2023

Ava Arnette Pippin, 68 of Mineral VA, after a strong battle with cancer, left this earth to join the Glory of God on June 30, 2023.

Ava was born July 23, 1954 to Allen and Virginia Pippin, also of Mineral.  Ava shared her life with companion, Sherman Shifflett who preceded her in death in 2022.  She was preceded in death by grandparents, several Aunts, Uncles and cousins.  She is survived by her parents, Allen and Virginia Pippin of Mineral, a sister, Rebekah Perkins (Pippin) of Midlothian, VA, an Aunt, Marianne Pippin of Ipswich Suffolk, England, a cousin, Gary Wayne Pippin of London, England.

Ava’s faith in God, dedication and services to her family, the community, the Education system of the County and Louisa Christian Church filled her life with the emotional rewards of giving to others.

Ava graduated from LCHS in 1972, received her Batchelor of Science, Business Education, Longwood College 1976, Master of Arts, New Professional Studies at George Mason University 2001, Certifications from Virginia Commonwealth University in Economics & Personal Finance 2012, University of Virginia, Meeting & Event Planning 2011, University of Richmond, Paralegal Studies 1990.

Ava’s career took her to the LCHS as a teacher, Business Information Systems from 1976 to 2009.  Site Coordinator and Adjunct Instructor, PVCC from 1985 to 2004.  Legislative Aide, Virginia House of Delegates and the Virginia General Assembly providing campaign, administrative and legislative support to former Delegate V. Earl Dickinson during Robb’ and Baliles’ administrations, 1984 to 1985.  Executive Director for the Louisa Education Foundation 2010 to present.  Louisa County Representative to PVCC Board 2008 to 2016, serving as Vice Chair 2012 to 2014 and Board Chair 2014 to 2016.  A life member of the Louisa Christian Church, she served as Deaconess, Treasurer, Elder, during the past 15 years. Other affiliations include LCPS Career & Technical Education Advisory Committee, Louisa County Chamber of Commerce Board and Education Chair, Louisa County Rotary Club Secretary, Vice-President and President, Mineral Historic Foundation Archives Co-Chair, Louisa Junior Women’s Club Secretary and President, Louisa County Crimesolvers, Louisa County League of Women Voters, Outstanding Young Woman of America, 1984.

Ava had a love for history, antiques, politics and athletics and enjoyed those with her life companion Sherman.  She loved music, concerts with her friends and sister, and life goals of dedication to God and others.

A Celebration of Life will be held July 23, 2023 at New Life Community Church 509 East Main St. at 4:00 P.M for all to share their memories, happy moments, fun, laughter and how Ava impacted their lives.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Louisa Christian Church or the Louisa Education Foundation.
