I`m a vice president at Virginia Commonwealth University and worked with Sambo for years at the General Assembly. What a wonderful, warm, joyful friend he was! I can`t remember a time when he didn`t have a smile on his face. He truly was a friend`s friend. We will miss him but his was truly a life well lived. Please accept my heart felt sympathy. He was a fine, fine man.
I met him once in Port Royal,Va a couple of years back. He was descended from the Ennis family and was kin to my grandmother Mary Virginia Gibbs thru her sister. Sorry to hear of your loss.
I am so sorry that I am unable to make it home to Louisa to honor Sambo`s life, but I would like to take the time to say how much of a joy it has been to call Sambo a friend. I always respected and admired Sambo for his life-long commitment to service to the Commonwealth of Virginia, the County of Louisa, and to his many friends. It was always a pleasure to run into Sambo around town, especially during breakfast time at Hardees, and, no matter what, he always managed to bring a smile to my face. I know my family and I will truly miss his wisdom, his kindness and his general presence in Louisa. Please know that you and your family are foremost in my heart and in my prayers during this difficult time.

Soft spoken, dedicated and hard working community servant whomI respected.
Sally:Sharon and I are both saddened to hear of Samboâ??s passing. We will always treasure the hours we spent together touring Green Springs with him and the gracious hospitality of your home. Sambo and I had such fun with the Victor Hall shooting and Green Springs history. Sambo kept telling me that I needed to write a book. Indeed, Murder At Green Springs would never have been without his encouragement and his generous knowledge. When I remember the hours of sharing discoveries with Sambo in your den with Toby at our feet and General Mahoneâ??s sword over the hearth, my eyes well up with tears of joy. Such rich moments in life are rare. Sambo was a real gentleman and special friend.
Dear Sally & Jackie. Greg & I were sadded by the news of Sambo`s passing. He was an extraordinary man, friend and public servant. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family now. Please know we are thinking of all of you. Fondly, Jackie, Greg, Jeff & Jenna Pleasants
